“The man once wrote: Do not meddle in the affairs of wizards, for they are subtle and quick to anger. Tolkien had that one mostly right.
I stepped forward, let the door bang closed, and snarled, “Fuck subtle.”
Ever wonder about Undertown?
While recently rereading Summer Knight, I was fascinated by Jim Butcher’s descriptions of Undertown, and I got to wondering how much of those descriptions were true. I did a bit of research, and came across this great post from Straight Dope Chicago.
So—does Undertown exist? The answer might surprise you!

So, which of the Dresden files is your favorite book? Why?
My favorite would have to be Summer Knight, for several reasons. First off, I love faerie lore (especially the British variety), and I think Jim Butcher did a great job incorporating it into his story while giving it his own unique twist. I loved the depictions of the Courts, especially the scene with Maeve in Undertown. Additionally, in my opinion, the moment near the end of the book where Meryl Chooses is one of the most poignant scenes in the series.
Everything was fleshed-out so fully; he really created his own faerie mythology within The Dresden Files, and I just ate it up.
The White Council scenes were great as well—particularly the bits with Harry showing up in a bath robe (hey, a robe is a robe, right?) and trying (and failing) to speak Latin. xD
Summer Knight is also where Harry’s debt to Mab is first introduced, which gives it a place of particular importance in the timeline! :D
